Baicalein 98%

The dried root of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi, a perennial herb belonging to the Lamiaceae family and genus Scutellaria, is commonly known as huangqin. Other names include shancha gen, tujinchagen, tiaoqin (ziqin, new roots with solid cores), and kuqin (suqin, old hollow roots). It is primarily grown in Hebei, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Inner Mongolia, Gansu, and Shandong provinces, with extensive cultivation also occurring in northeastern China, Sichuan, and Xinjiang. The highest quality huangqin comes from Chengde, Hebei. This plant thrives in sunny, dry slopes, tolerates cold and drought well, and prefers loose, neutral to slightly alkaline soil. It blooms with bluish-purple labiate flowers from July to August. Roots are harvested in spring and autumn after 2–4 years of growth.Fresh roots are conical, with brownish-yellow outer bark and bright yellow cross-sections, possessing an extremely bitter taste. Dried roots measure 8–25 cm in length and have longitudinal wrinkles on the surface. Ziqin (new roots) are firm and solid, while suqin (old roots) are hollow in the center. The cross-section is yellow with a brownish-brown core.Harvesting: Roots are dug up in spring or autumn, cleaned of fibrous roots, and sun-dried.

Baicalein 98% is extracted from the dried root of Scutellaria baicalensis. It is the aglycone formed by removing glucuronic acid from baicalin and represents the active form of huangqin's pharmacological effects in vivo. It appears as  yellow  powder, nearly insoluble in water but readily soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, methanol, acetone, and DMSO. When exposed to alkaline solutions, it turns greenish-brown; in concentrated sulfuric acid, it exhibits a yellow color with green fluorescence. Due to its multiple phenolic hydroxyl groups. it is prone to oxidation and discoloration, so it should be stored in a light-protected, sealed container.
