Rhizoma Drynariae Extract

The extract of Rhizoma drynariae comes from the dried rhizomes of the plant Drynaria fortunei (Kunze) J. Sm., which belongs to the family Drynaria. It is an active substance extracted through solvent methods (such as water, ethanol, or aqueous ethanol), which can effectively separate and concentrate its bioactive components while retaining the core beneficial substances of the medicinal material. Drynaria is also known as monkey ginger, stone rock ginger, or hairy ginger. It is a traditional Chinese medicinal material, with its medicinal part being the dried rhizomes, which are long and cylindrical in shape, often curved or twisted, with a few being slightly straight. The surface is covered with brownish to dark brown linear druses. The texture is brittle and the cross-section is reddish-brown. It has a faint odor, a slightly bland and slightly astringent taste, and when chewed, it has a sticky sensation. The cross-section becomes slightly sticky when encountering water, and the texture of the druses softens when exposed to water, with the color slightly fading.

The main active component of the Rhizoma Drynariae Extract is naringenin. Naringenin belongs to the flavonoid class and is also a major detection standard for the genuine Achyranthes bidentata specified in the "Chinese Pharmacopoeia". The content of naringenin in the dried product should not be lower than 0.5%. Its content is affected by the growth environment. The naringenin content in the rhizomes of Drynaria growing on stone walls is significantly higher than that in the rhizomes growing on tree trunks, and the content of naringenin is the highest in the 1-year-old rhizomes, gradually decreasing with the increase in growth age.
